Youth Home’s Tricare-Certified Residential Treatment Program offers hope for youth ages 12-17 with a primary diagnosis of Reactive Attachment Disorder, ODD, Depression/Anxiety, PTSD or Trauma with Award-Winning Recreational Therapy.
The residential program allows patients to live for 3-7 months in a secure and therapeutic environment, under 24/hour supervision from direct care staff and nursing.
Award-Winning Recreational Therapy
Our recreational therapy department offers a highly successful avenue of treatment for our youth. The patients in our residential program come to us with histories of severe trauma, and are often strongly opposed to game play and relaxed fun.
Having fun means subconsciously knowing that you're in a safe enough environment to let your guard down, to be able to move freely and trust the people around you. That’s a hard ask for youth who have experienced prolonged or severely traumatic events. In Youth Home’s program, patients are given the opportunity to enjoy safe game play, which of course increases the measure of their quality of life with the help and necessary guidance from our therapy team.
Community Outreach Program
Youth Home also has an incredible outreach program that our patients get to be involved with as a part of the Recreational Therapy Department, initiated by the current director Shelly Zellner, who has been a part of Youth Home’s team for over 25 years. She consistently reports that the volunteer work Youth Home patients participate totally changes their lives.
Patients enjoy outings to volunteer at the Arkansas Food Bank, packaging food for the hungry and homeless in our area, and spend time with the elderly at 2-3 different assisted living facilities. They write and draw Christmas cards for military personnel who are deployed overseas, and make valentines cards and artwork for the patients receiving care at the local Children's Hospital. These are just a few of the outings and activities they’ve enjoyed serving in over the last six months. The patients leave this program changed, becoming successful and contributing members of their families and communities.
The Social Benefit of Residential Inpatient Treatment
Patients in residential care are trained in social skills, impulse control, empathy and self-awareness as they unpack their trauma with a highly skilled team of therapists. This program also includes an Arkansas Department of Health approved school that patients attend on campus five days a week to stay on track educationally while they receive care.

“It’s been almost 10 years since my leaving Youth Home and I could not be more grateful. I’m happy to see some of the wonderful staff still work there. I think about Youth Home often as it made a huge impact on my life. Mostly on how to be an incredibly empathetic person, build social skills, have a strong relationship with family, to be myself, and of course being a mature woman. Thank you so much.” – Youth Home Patient
