Supporting Teens Through the Holiday Season

Navigating holidays and healing at Youth Home

At Youth Home, we understand that not everyone celebrates the holidays—and even for those who do, this time of year isn’t always filled with excitement. What is universal, however, is how busy the season becomes. We see it in long grocery-store lines, jam-packed community calendars, and traffic that seems to make us 30 minutes late everywhere we go.

The Holidays Feel Different for Everyone

No two people experience the holidays the same way. For many of the teens we serve, this season can bring added stress, emotional triggers, or memories that make the weeks ahead feel overwhelming. That’s why consistency, routine, and a sense of safety become even more important during this time.

At Youth Home, our team provides intentional, stabilizing support to make sure the “seasonal craze” doesn’t derail a young person’s path toward healing.

When a Teen Is Struggling, Support Can’t Wait

We also know that many people genuinely love this time of year—the gatherings, traditions, family time, and joy. But when a teen is struggling, residential treatment can feel like an interruption to all of that. The truth is, struggles don’t wait for the holidays, and neither does crisis.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, nearly one-quarter of Americans report feeling more stressed during the holidays. Stress can amplify existing challenges, especially for young people navigating mental health concerns.

Healing Happens in Safe, Connected Places

We believe deeply that healing happens in safe, supportive environments—and families are a vital part of that process. We cannot do this work alone. That’s why ongoing communication and frequent family therapy sessions are central to our approach.

Our goal for every teen and family is restabilization, reconnection, and a path forward.

A Home Away From Home

While teens are on our campus, we want them to experience a sense of home. Our staff work around the clock throughout the holiday season to provide genuine, compassionate care. You’ll see this in the activities we organize, the sacrifices our team makes, and the smiles on teens’ faces as they walk down our halls.

We hope that during their time here, teens feel comfort, belonging, and above all—healing.

Here for Teens, Here for Families, Here for the Season

We want nothing more than for our kids to return home to their families. But while they are with us, our commitment is to make this season a time of safety, support, and hope—no matter what the holidays look like for them.

For Professionals: Knowing When It’s Time to Refer

For therapists, psychologists, and medical professionals, the holiday season can make an already-challenging situation feel even more urgent. When a teen’s safety, stability, or mental health needs extend beyond what can be supported at home or in outpatient care, timely referral becomes critical. Trusting your clinical instincts and acting early can make all the difference.

If you’re working with a teen who may benefit from residential treatment, our Admissions Team is here to support you through a smooth, responsive referral process. Submit a Professional Referral today, and give hope this holiday season.

At Youth Home Inc., we believe that every young person deserves to feel valued, confident, and celebrated for who they are. That belief drives us to take actionable steps to address the unique needs of the diverse youth in our care. Today, we are thrilled to share an exciting initiative that honors a legacy of care, compassion, and empowerment: the Beatrice Green Scholarship Fund.
