With over 25 years of experience working with children and families struggling with a RAD diagnosis, Youth Home, has developed and implemented a specific program to help your family. But what makes that program unique?

The Reactive Attachment Disorder track includes the standard avenues of care involved in our Residential Treatment Program, like:

✨ Recreational Therapy

✨ Individual, Group, and Family Therapy

✨ On-Campus School, and

✨ 24-Hour Nursing & Supervision.

Though naturally, there are a few differences between the standard track and the Reactive Attachment Disorder track, including:

  • The methodologies of therapy used in therapy sessions are targeted towards a RAD diagnosis, and the specific attachment needs a child may have.

  • Our lead Reactive Attachment Disorder therapist, Brenda Scheffler LCSW (and expert in the treatment of Reactive Attachment Disorder), also leads a bi-monthly supervision. In this meeting, our treatment team addresses the specific needs of every child in our residential program with a RAD diagnosis.

  • But the most important difference, in our opinion, is the monthly multi-family group for RAD Clients led by Brenda Scheffler. We require that parents participate in this monthly Multi-Family Group to gain support from other families going through similar experiences. This is also a time for parents to receive training on how to parent a child more effectively based on their attachment needs.

All in all, this track is designed with your family's needs in mind.

Reactive Attachment Disorder Therapy

If you've tried many of these things to no avail, are feeling unsafe in the home, or like outpatient therapy is just not meeting the needs of your child - we understand. There is not quick fix for Reactive Attachment, and we know from years of experience that this disorder in particular is really hard on parents.

Youth Home's RAD treatment program was designed with your child in mind, and focuses on social skills, empathy, regular game play, healthy interactions, education and community contribution. If you think you're child could benefit from a more intensive/long-term treatment program, we hope to be a tool for you.

Sixty Years of Impact—and a Bold New Chapter Ahead 2026 marks a meaningful milestone for Youth Home: six decades of service, healing, and hope. What started as one Social Worker's dream, has grown into an organization that has touched countless lives and families across the country and beyond. That growth did not happen by accident - it happened because people like you chose to invest in something bigger than themselves. As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded of the people who have been a part of this journey, from the individuals and families we have served to the staff and volunteers who show up with compassion, and each community partner who believe in our mission. Introducing SpeakEasy: Where Fun Meets Purpose We're thrilled to announce the launch of our newest signature event, SpeakEasy , debuting on May 2, 2026 to kick off Mental Health Awareness Month. SpeakEasy represents everything we want our next chapter to be: joyful, connected, and deeply purposeful. This annual gathering will bring our community together for an evening that proves philanthropy and celebration go hand in hand. We can't wait to share more details in the coming weeks, but mark your calendars—you won't want to miss this innovative evening. A Fresh Look for a New Era A milestone like this offers the opportunity to refresh our brand by embracing our future while honoring our roots. We are working to bring you a completely reimagined website experience, with new visuals and refined messaging that reflects Youth Home's 60-year legacy and the bold work that lies ahead. We are too excited to keep it all under wraps, so expect to see changes in the months to come!
