Youth Home Inc TRICARE East & West Residential Program for Children Ages 12-17 with Mental Illness

Jori Burns, LAC

TRICARE® Liaison

Residential Treatment

Jori first joined Youth Home as a clinical therapist and provided individual, family, and group therapy with our clients. She received both her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Central Arkansas. She has experience working in juvenile mentoring programs, acute care settings, non-profit domestic violence agencies, and focused treatment with sexual assault survivors.

Jori served with the Army National Guard for 7 years and deployed overseas with an aviation unit. With her military service background, growing up in a military family, and combined clinical experience, Youth Home’s new TRICARE Liaison is a knowledgeable addition to serve our military-connected families during their journey to recovery and healing. She will assist families prior to admission in understanding Youth Home’s program as a resource, during treatment to aid in collaboration with our teams, and bi-annual progress updates post-discharge.

Since being a part of YH, Jori states that she really enjoys connecting with the kids and conducting groups. She’s able to assist families in understanding the need for bonding and trust before correction. She will continue to facilitate specialized groups with military children to include themes of grief and loss with relocation, difficulties in maintaining friendships, identity and role development, and assist in building leadership skills.

“My dad started out infantry, I grew up with him as a Drill Sergeant and then as a Chaplain. The values of the Army have guided me successfully, but there were missing components to strengthen my individuality. I hope to further bridge the gap between the principles of military culture and the trauma-informed approach needed towards mental health in order for all to thrive, especially our children!”
