Hello, my name is Conner, I was a resident of Chestnut House. When I was admitted I suffered from anxiety and some depression. Growing up I was a child of divorce, this had a big toll on me and my mental state. When I first was admitted I soon began to dive into individual therapy and group therapy.
At Youth Home, they offer a lot of different therapies. When I was a resident, I did a therapy called EMDR. The meaning behind EMDR is Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. Some goals of EMDR are helping people who suffer from PTSD, Panic Attacks, Eating Disorders, Addictions, and Anxiety. Youth Home offers so many types of therapies specified to each patient. When I was admitted I was not aware of how much of a mental toll this all had on me. When my therapist and I dived into this therapy it helped me tremendously. The rec staff and all the activities they do teach youth how to be good team members and peers to one another. The staff and the Rec staff make sure that everyone is included and cared for.
Youth Home has changed my life for the better, their program has left the biggest impact on me. The program taught me how to be a good leader, a lot of life skills, and coping skills. Their passion for helping troubled youth has inspired me to go into the field. I recommend this program to anyone who is struggling mentally or has past traumas. Youth Home’s mission is to equip and empower youth, adults, and families to become healthier contributing members of the community by providing compassionate emotional and behavioral health care. I am beyond grateful for what this non-profit organization has done for me and what they will continue to do for their patients.
